Use SiteSub to submit your site to over 1000 Link Directories - For free!
SiteSub is an add-on for Firefox. i.e. It ONLY works with Firefox. If you don't have Firefox, you can get it here: -
SiteSub 1.1 Release Notes
- A category tree has been included in the SiteSub sidebar. The category tree will obtain a hierarchical list of categories from each Link Directory page as it loads. Link Directory pages that use AJAX to dynamically load categories will not display categories in the SiteSub sidebar. Selecting a category in the category tree will automatically select the same category in the drop-down on the Link Directory page. There are two reasons for including the category tree in version 1.1. i.e. -
- Some Link Directory pages open a pop-up window displaying ads when you click on the category drop-down. Selecting a category from the SiteSub category tree, rather than from the category drop-down on the page, prevents the ad pop-up from being displayed.
- The majority of Link Directory sites list available categories in a rather ridiculous way - Using pipes (|) and underscores (_) to display their hierarchical structure. The category tree in the SiteSub sidebar will display the categories in a truly hierarchical way, making it much simpler, quicker and a lot more logical to select the correct category for your site.
- SiteSub 1.1 will "remember" the last selected category. When a new Link Directory page it loaded, SiteSub will attempt to select the category (Based on the last selected category) automatically. In most cases this makes things quite a bit quicker.
How to use SiteSub
- Press Alt + Q to open the SiteSub sidebar. If Alt + Q doesn't work, open the SiteSub sidebar by clicking View > Sidebar> SiteSub on the Firefox menu.
- Supply all of the information required in the SiteSub sidebar.
- NOTE: In the Keywords field, you need to supply a comma separated list of keywords that apply to your site.
- NOTE: In the Your Email field, you need to supply a valid email address. Do not use your primary email address, because the people that run these Link Directories will spam you! I recommend that you use a disposable email address - A Gmail address will work just fine. Many of the Link Directories require that you validate your email address before they will accept your submission. So using a valid email address is important.
- NOTE: Don't change the number in the Site Index field unless you specifically want to jump backwards or forwards to a specific Link Directory.
- Once you have supplied all of the required information in the SiteSub sidebar, click the Next site button.
- The 1st Link Directory's submission page will load in the current Firefox tab. Wait for the page to finish loading! Some the Link Directory sites are very slow, so be patient.
- When the page has finished loading, SiteSub will fill in the submission form with the information you supplied in the sidebar.
- SiteSub will attempt to select the Regular Links option (The option that is free and that doesn't require a reciprocal link). SiteSub gets it right most of the time, but there might be a few instances when it doesn't get it right. So make sure that the correct option is selected.
- Most of the Link Directories require you to select a category for the site you are submitting. It is almost impossible to automate the category selection, because almost every Link Directory has a different set of categories. So select at category that best suits your site. Some of the Link Directories provide and insanely long list of categories - I think they have more categories than submissions!
- Some of the Link Directories require that you supply a CAPTCHA code. Enter the CAPTCHA code if it is required.
- When you have supplied all of the information required by the Link Directory submission, click the Submit or Continue button.
- If the Link Directory submission reports an error with the information you have supplied, fix the error and click the Submit or Continue button again.
- When Link Directory submission page reports that your site has been accepted, click the Next site button in the SiteSub sidebar.
- Many of these Link Directories run on shared hosting servers, and some of them might display a Bandwidth Exceeded error message. If you get an error message when loading the Link Directory page, just click the Next site button again. This will skip the current Link Directory site and move onto the next one.
